Little Things

You always hear that saying "It's the little things in life", and I usually don't like cliche quotes like that. At all. But I've realized recently that it is SOOOOOO true.

Honestly, the past few weeks have been really rough on me. It's been a struggle to go to work with a smile on my face, it's been difficult to get my papers and design projects done on time, it's been frustrating to plan campus events that haven't already been done in past years, and it's been near impossible for me to get more than 4 hours of sleep every night.
I'm not complaining. At all. I'm just trying to give you a little background so you know WHY the little things are so important in my life right now. Since my 'normal life' of school, work, homework, and sleep have been completely demolished and are hanging by a thread....the tinniest things in the world are becoming so much more amazing than they were a few weeks ago.
The tiny little moments and events that can make a bad day into an awesome week! I have several examples from this week to share with you.

I received a package from my Church's Sunday School...granola bars, easy mac, cookies, post-it notes, popcorn, highlighters, and the best part?....homemade brownie and homemade cookies!! And the cutest part about this 'College Care Package' was the note that a middle schooler wrote me. I don't even know her but she wrote "I hope you don't have a math class because I don't like math." I don't know why, but it just made me chuckle! And thankfully I DON'T have a math class this semester!

I kind of sorta had an emotional breakdown one night. The next day happened to be beautiful out, and my good friend, Mariana dragged my grumpy lazy butt out of bed and took me to the nearby park. We laid on a blanket on the grass, staring up at the sunshine and embraced the day for what it was worth.
It's amazing what a little downtime and sunshine can do for your mood :D

If any of you are my facebook friends, you may have noticed a status awhile back about my brother stopping by my college to visit me? Well while he was here he grabbed a marker and wrote this on my calendar....I ended up cutting it out and attaching it to this month so I could still see it. Adam is the type of brother that can always make you smile no matter how rough you may think life is.

Another little thing in life that (somehow) makes life so much better....the fact that I open my cupboard doors and see my Pink Princess silverware next to my Sesame Street Cookbook. There is nothing more that makes me feel like a kid than this right here. I know I know......your jealous.

The main thing I have learned over the past week or so.....it REALLY is the little things that can turn a bad day into an awesome week!! You don't need to spend lots of money or lots of time or lots of anything to make things better. Just notice the little things around you and appreciate them for what they are worth. They are worth a lot more than you probably think.

Peace Out!
